Driving license

The driving license in Spain has a limited validity and must be renewed periodically to ensure the driver meets the physical, psychological, and administrative requirements necessary to continue driving safely.

Special cases

  1. Expired license: You cannot drive with it, but it can be renewed without penalty.
  2. EU citizens residing in Spain: They must renew their visas in accordance with Spanish regulations if they have been residing in Spain for more than two years.
  3. Damaged, stolen, or lost permit: A duplicate may be requested, but not a renewal.

Useful tips

  1. You can renew up to 3 months before expiration, and no days are lost.
  2. People over 65 can complete procedures at the DGT without needing an appointment.
  3. To contact the DGT, you can do so through its website or by calling 060.
  4. If you have changed your address, during the renewal process at the Center we can change the address you want the Traffic Department to provide for notifications.
  5. Temporary Authorization it is only valid for driving in Spain , so we recommend that you renew it as soon as possible.
