Weapons license

15% discount for unemployed people and those over 60 years of age

The possession and use of firearms in Spain is regulated by the Weapons Regulations (Royal Decree 137/1993) , and license renewal is mandatory to ensure the holder continues to meet the necessary legal, medical, and fitness requirements.

The Validity

Normally the validity of the Weapons License is 5 years .

Furthermore, starting at age 67, a weapons visa will be required every three years. The visa simply consists of presenting the psychophysical aptitude report issued by the Psychological Testing Unit to the Weapons Intervention Office.

General requirements for renewal

  1. Renewal application (official form available at the Civil Guard Weapons Intervention or online office).
  2. Official medical certificate , issued by an authorized Driver Recognition Center (physical and psychological tests).
  3. Original and valid DNI or NIE.
  4. Proof of payment of corresponding administrative fees.
  5. Present the weapons and their corresponding guides
  6. A valid hunting license. Or documentation proving the use of the weapon, such as use at a shooting club.

Where to renew the license

  1. Intervention of Arms of the Civil Guard corresponding to the applicant's place of residence.
  2. Some renewals can be initiated electronically through the Civil Guard's electronic headquarters .

Recommendations

  1. Start the renewal process at least one month before the expiration date .
  2. Consult with the Weapons Intervention in case of doubts or special situations.
  3. In the case of hunters, have a valid Hunting License.
  4. If you own three or more guns, you may require more than one gun inspection appointment.
